Caborca is dedicated to providing educational experiences.

Inherent in the mission of Caborca, we create ways of seeing theatre anew, staging performances that engage audience members in new content and forms. Talk-backs after shows are a vital part of our company’s work and evolution.

Caborca Writers’ Group (CWG)

Under the guidance of Javier Antonio González, artists of different backgrounds develop first drafts and share work in a safe, rigorous, and friendly setting. After several rounds of this writing circle format, selected writers delve deeper into their dramatic writing through longer term flexible-format residencies. Previous rounds have yielded two full productions, a novel, and a feature film.

Acting and Composition Workshops

We are a company of practicing and teaching artists who can custom craft workshops based on the interests and needs of your students in both English and Spanish. We look for ways to curate training sessions that are context-specific, places where the actor is creator, interpreter and performer. Our training steals and borrows from Stanislavsky, Biomechanics, Viewpoints, postmodern dance, Linklater technique, Theater of the Oppressed, Malayerba, and more. In the past, we have blended an intensive physical and vocal training with techniques for devising and writing collaboratively.

Talkbacks and Symposia

In conjunction with our shows which are often political in nature, we can facilitate Q&A’s, talk-back sessions, and symposia. Past events have covered topics such as Latin American political theatre (Octopus’s Garden), Bolaño and fascism (Distant Star), and techniques for theatre making (Zoetrope).
