Javier Antonio González
Artistic Director

Javier Antonio González is a playwright, director, and filmmaker who has served as the artistic director of CABORCA since its founding. Some of his authorial work with the company includes: Lying Lydia; Distant Star (adapted from Roberto Bolaño's novel); Zoetrope; Open up, Hadrian; Barceloneta, de noche; FLORIDITA, my Love; and his first feature film, The Entitlement. In 2016, he directed his original translation of A Midsummer Night's Dream in San Juan, Puerto Rico for Teatro en el Parque. His work has been published in the anthologies, Plays and Playwrights 2011 (New York Theatre Experience), Encuentro: Latinx Performance for the New American Theater (Northwestern University Press) and in The Puerto Rico Review. Javier holds a BA from the University of Puerto Rico and an MFA from Columbia University School of the Arts. He was a Van Lier Directing Fellow, a member of the Public Theater’s Emerging Writers Group and a recipient of the Global Connections–In the Lab grant from Theatre Communications Group. He has taught at DreamYard Prep, LaGuardia Community College, and most recently he directed Electra at Barnard College and The Lower Depths at NYU.

David Skeist
Producing Director

David is a multi-disciplinary artist who has appeared in many of CABORCA’s works. Notable roles include Belano/Wieder in Distant Star, Padre Aurelio in Zoetrope, title role in Open up, Hadrian, and Dr. Skeist in The Entitlement. As a performer, David has collaborated with Richard Foreman, David Gordon, Elizabeth Swados, Niky Wolcz, Doris Mirescu, Meiyin Wang, Shira Milikowsky, Adam Rapp, Len Jenkin, Eduardo Machado, and Stolen Chair among many others. Film and TV: Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, The Interpretation of Dreams, Memorial Day. David is the director of Susan Hyon’s solo performance Soo Jin Pretty Nail (and more), and was assistant to André Gregory on The Master Builder. He teaches Acting at Barnard College and has previously taught at Columbia School of the Arts and New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. BA in Cultural and Performance Studies from Harvard; MFA in Acting from Columbia.

Pelé Sánchez Tormes

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Pedro is a stage artist and massage therapist. In 2009 they moved to New York and in 2011 first collaborated with CABORCA in El médico de su honra. Other productions with the group include Zoetrope, Western, Hamlet and Lying Lydia. Their stage career began in 1998 with political street theater group Jovenes del ‘98 directed by the educator and theater maker Maritza Pérez Otéro. Other collaborations include Puerto Rican artists Jose “Pepe” Alvarez, Sylvia Bofill, Teresa Hernández, and choreographer and Puerto Rican contemporary dance pioneer Viveca Vázquez. He currently performs with Brooklyn-based indie rock band Pinc Louds.

Laura Butler Rivera

Laura is an international actor, director, and choreographer. She has performed, offered theater workshops, and taught in Turkey, Berlin, Japan, Lithuania, Romania, Italy, US, Australia, Colombia, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. She is a member of CABORCA and a co-founder of One-Eighth Theater. She holds an MFA in Acting from Columbia University and a BA from the University of Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras.

Marcos Toledo

Marcos is a freelance photographer and designer based in Brooklyn. As a founding member of CABORCA, he has worked as visual media director, cinematographer (The Entitlement, 7 Minutes) and actor (Barceloneta de noche, FLORIDITA my Love, Las minutas de Martí, El médico de su honra, Open Up, Hadrian and Zoetrope). Other theater work includes The Sound of Ill Days (El Kibutz del Deseo), Paris Belongs to Us (Dangerous Grounds) and Sin Fin (Joaquin Octavio). He also creates graphic botanical compositions under the name Influorescent, a floral project exploring the interplay between nature and interiors. influorescent.com

Brooke Bell

Brooke is an experimental theatre, film and performance artist. She is the artistic director of Virago Stage and Screen and a member of CABORCA. Her work for CABORCA has included directing, designing and performing in Secret Project Cowboy Lobster Lady. Her multi-media feminist satire THE DANCING BOOBIES TRILOGY: LECTURE AND REENACTMENTS, produced by Virago Stage and Screen, has been performed at the Brooklyn Museum and the Center for Performance Research. She has had the pleasure of working extensively with One Eighth, Dangerous Ground, Stolen Chair, Three Day Hangover and the Institute for Psychogeographic Adventure.

Michael Barringer

Michael is a filmmaker, educator, and performer living in Brooklyn. Backsiders (writer/DP/producer), a short film supported by a residency from the Barn Arts Collective, screened at film festivals across the country and is featured on NoBudge. He was the co-cinematographer on CABORCA's first feature film, The Entitlement and has acted in many CABORCA productions including Zoetrope, Hamlet, and Open Up, Hadrian. Recent work includes Sylvan Esso's #PlayAtHome music video (director of photography), featured on The Late Show with Steven Colbert. He teaches screenwriting and film production at ESRA International Film School and is currently pursuing his MFA in directing at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema at Brooklyn College. www.michaelbarringer.com

Jenny Tibbels

Jenny Tibbels is a live arts producer and theatre director dedicated to developing experimental work and facilitating intercultural exchange. Producing credits include: CABORCA’s Zoetrope at the Festival Pueblos Escena 2019 in Cuba and Octopus's Garden, SENTINEL by Danielle Russo Performance Project at Brooklyn Historical Society, A South African Play Festival at Baltimore Theater Project, and the premiere of Ursula Rucker’s My Father's Daughter at the Annenberg Center in Philadelphia. Associate producing credits include: The Freedom Theatre of Palestine’s The Siege at NYU Skirball, EXO-TECH at Pioneer Works, and The Segal Theatre Center’s annual Prelude Festival. Jian Jung

Jian is a New York based set and costume designer for theaters and operas. Jung’s design works have been acclaimed as 'innovative', 'inventive', 'genius,' and 'spectacular' by The New York Times, LA Times, and Time Out. Jung received a 2015 Edith Lutyens & Norman Bel Geddes Design Enhancement Award, and her work was exhibited in Prague Quadrennial 2015. Theatre: Classic Stage Company, The Kitchen, The Bushwick Starr, The Flea, Abrons Arts Center, Theater Row, ART/NY, and Soho Rep, and internationally in Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Korea. Erin Maureen Koster

Erin is an events and theatrical stage manager. She has worked in large-scale corporate events, galas, fundraisers, and festivals, as well as all over New York City in the Off Off Broadway and Off Broadway communities. She is a Councilor at Actors’ Equity Association, an ambassador and advisor to the Parent Artist Advocacy League (PAAL), a core member of the Fair Wage OnStage movement, and a mom.

Tania Molina

Tania is a Puerto Rican theater and film actor living in Brooklyn, NY. She belongs to artistic collectives CABORCA and El kibutz del deseo. With CABORCA: Zoetrope; Hamlet; Western; Open up, Hadrian; El médico de su honra; Las minutas de Martí; FLORIDITA, my Love; and Barceloneta, de noche. Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew

Jeanette is a NYC based lighting and projection designer. The New York Times describes her work as “clever” and “inventive.” With CABORCA: Lying Lydia, Hamlet and Zoetrope. Other (lighting): KPOP!
